School Board Meeting Tonight. Check Out The Packet.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , on October 30, 2013 by chasinthenews

I am sorry Mr. CzerWonka.   Your work on this ” Survey” is a joke.   I am sure your not at your fault.  I question who came up with these questions?   I do not seem to see where it asks about how people feel/felt about the school district/high school/ Junior high administration, over all the administration.   Was it not asked because you were afraid to?  They really are not digging very hard to see why people are leaving the district.   Keep in mind Evansville tax payers the district will lost almost a million dollars this year do to open enrollment.   They are a failing district.

So once again the district only asks questions when you are not concerned about the answers.

ALSO take a look at how LOW the numbers are for people leaving the district because of lack of 4k

Oh my goodness this thing reads like a soap opera .  Please go to  ‘ Naming School District Facilities and Events.’

They want to name the football field after Ron Grovesteen.    Why?  One of the requirements is exemplary character.    Have we forgotten what a , sexist pig he is?   Then lets not forget about his actions away from school.

Lets not forget he and Brian Cashore got the district sued a few years back because he is a sexist pig and harassed a young , female student.   He did not watch out for her at all during practice and she became injured because of negligence.

Should we talk about his feelings about soccer and those who play it and the comments he has made about those who play soccer?

He surly thinks he is all that, but when was the last time he won a state championship????   Ever???

But its the good old boys club at this district and they will reward his wicked behavior by naming a field after him, some thing he does not deserve.

****************************

They are going into closed executive session to discuss personal  history of specific persons  .  Please let it be Ron Grovesteen they are talking about and discussing.   The man supposedly has a personal file 6 inches thick of different complaints against him.      I can not imagine who else they are discussing, but who really knows.

***************************************************************************************************************************************

Katy Fisher a teacher at the high school is resigning.   But they want to charge her 500.00 for damages?   For what ?

liquidated damages.?

*******************************************************************************************************************************************

So Ron Grovesteen is going to coach M.S. boys basketball so he can call them names, as well as the football players.   Nice.

**********************************************************************************************************************

Nostalgia: 2007: Evansville Schools consider; reject online instruction

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on May 6, 2013 by chasinthenews

What a HUGE mistake they made by rejecting this.    It has most definitely back fired on them.

The Evansville School District is most certainly stuck right now.  While other districts grow and offer more and more.

Our numbers are declining and we are offering less and less.

We need leadership on the board and in administration and we do not have it.

“Janesville School District’s WKCE scores exceed state averages” by Latest News — GazetteXtra

The Janesville school district should be embarrassed trying like they are doing so great.  They are in the same boat as Evansville only around 40% tested at proficient or advanced in the Janesville school district.     That is just pathetic.

Those darn back loaded bonds.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on March 16, 2013 by chasinthenews

I have heard several people in the last few weeks talk about the  ‘ back-loaded bonds.’      I think we all notice that our tax bill goes up every year.    Sad news it will continue to go up.

It’s not that the school board does not make cuts.  It does.  It has made quite a few over the last several years.  Painful cuts.    But because of these bonds and things have not worked out like the board had wanted and needed in terms of continued growth both residential and commercial the bonds are really quite costly.    Bill Connors posted on the Evansville Observer about these bonds several years ago.   He states it in a very clear way.  Very understandable.

Nostalgia: September 2005: On “Backloaded Bonds”—-Classic Mr. Connors

Re:Bill Connors writes: School District Debt Service Heavily Back Loaded; Reflection on the Growth bicycle; or What mix and rate of Growth is right?

— billconnors wrote:

Managing growth is essential. But it would not be
prudent to constrain growth too much. The school
district’s debt service for 2005-06 is $1.98 million.
In 2014-15, the school district’s debt service will
exceed $3 million, even if no additional debt is
issued between now and then. In 2020-21, the last
year of payment on the bonds for the new high school,
the school district’s debt service will exceed $4
million. The school district heavily back-loaded the
repayment schedule on the bonds for the new high
school, which means they are counting on large
increases in the school district’s property tax base
through new construction to be able to pay for the
escalating debt service costs.

This appears to be prudent financial planning on the
part of the school district, but I wonder how many
people are aware that continued growth is essential to
keeping the school district’s mill rate in line.

Of course, we could get away with fewer new houses in
the school district if we had more commercial or
industrial development or a greater proportion of the
new houses were larger and more expansive, and fewer
new houses would save on operating costs for the
school district.

So when you hear certain perspective board members ‘claim’ they are going to fight against cuts both program and employee cuts they are LYING or not educated enough on the issues the board is facing.  Which if that is the case , they need to keep their mouths shut.   Because the school board is in such a position with its budget there will be cuts.   The board’s budget consists of over 80% goes to staff salary and benefits.    That is just huge.

Come to a board meeting and listen to the current board members struggle with cuts that need to be made.   THERE is no money.   So for a perspective board member to try to state they can do better is absolute crap.

Really what needs to happen is the current school board needs to stand strong and make the cuts they need to make to balance the budget.   Everyone knows they are not happy about it, but its the hand they have been given.    It’s not going to be less painful to make these cuts by dragging it out.

These staff need to know what would you rather have cut some benefits which you can and will adapt to ( the rest of us have.) or have them cut more positions trying to make up for the money they lost by not cutting benefits.  You are not going to get it both ways.   Really everything is on the table to look at cuts.   But the best people to make those choices is clearly those on the board.   But the private sector has lived with job cuts, hour cuts, benefits cuts for years.  Yet teacher’s, staff and programs some thought they were untouchable.

The world is just not rocking that way.

Do you remember this guy?? The Flea Market Man.. I wonder if he would work for the Evansville School District, Pro-Bono?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , on March 14, 2013 by chasinthenews

We could really use him for marketing purposes.

The Evansville school district has to start marketing it self.. if it could find points to market.    ACADEMICALLY.

It would be fun to see what he could come up with.

Jerry Roth set to take the helm at E.C.S.D. .. — School Scoop

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on July 2, 2012 by chasinthenews

SO GLAD Heidi Carvin  is done and gone.   She was absolutely horrible.

But man oh man does JerryRoth have his work cut out for him.   Heidi has let administration do what ever it has pleased for years,  hell she did what ever she pleased.   She thought she took direction from no one, even though she collected  a check courtesy of the Evansville tax payer.

Administration for years has disrespected the board because they were after the lead of their leader , Heidi.

NO ONE in administration in this district has thought they had to answer to anyone.    LOOK at the poor test scores,  LOOK at declining enrollment, Look at the bullying issues.

This school district is so far off track and nothing like what it used to be.   It’s embarrassing.

I know that several of the school board members are putting a lot of faith and hope into Jerry Roth, but what a huge mountain he is going to have to climb.   It will not be easy.

Good luck to him.

Please read Melissa’s thought’s on Heidi’s retirement.

Can Parents Take Over Schools? Will walker help.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , on June 19, 2012 by chasinthenews

IT is an interesting idea.   IF  a school is lousy , and has been given time and failed to make improvements.   Why should the teacher’s and principals be allowed to stay.  Stay and continue to collect a paycheck with benefits.

IF I am reading this correctly they still have to go through the school board.  But keep in mind school board members can be recalled.

However.      This does seem extreme.   But more and more states, California being the first are passing a law that allows this.

Tax paying parents have the right to demand a quality education from their schools.

CAN you not see walker passing such a law?     I so can.

It’s the right idea.   But seriously would need careful planning.   It could not be done a whim.

It puts the pressure on schools to get serious about improving.    To many schools take the attitude of  ” we will do what we do.”

It really could work as another tool in reforming and changing, and challenging our schools.    Evansville included.

School year round?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on June 18, 2012 by chasinthenews

It most certainly is not a new idea.  There are schools around the country who hold school year round , with breaks coming in 6, 4 , and 2 weeks stints.   Educators have long said that over summer vacations kids regress a lot.     Here in Evansville they spend the first few weeks of the new school year reviewing what they last learned before summer break.

The Lacrosse school district is giving serious thought to holding school year round.

I go both ways with this idea.    There are a lot of kids and parents who by August 1st are ready for the kiddo’s to go back to school.    But many families take several vacations throughout the summer and their summers are booked from the first day out school to the day they go back.   DO we really need the school intruding into our family time any more than they already do?

How many will leave the school district?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , on August 12, 2011 by chasinthenews

This last spring Theresa Daane resigned from the Evansville School District.  I for one am sad to see her go.

I did not always agree with her , but I respected her.    Theresa is very smart, and very good at her job.  It is a huge loss for the district.

Now I did not have the opportunity to ask why, but most people leave for more money, or a bigger challenge.    She faced many challenges in the school district and conquered most.

But with the lack of school funding  there are more challenges every day.

She was an advocate for parents and students.   She knew that was her job.

She held, staff accountable which in a small district, small town is not always easy to do, but she did.

She worked hard to get Evansville to pass ‘ No child left behind.’  She put in a lot of hours.

She helped to organize the B.A.S.E. committee here in Evansville.  She was the one school staff member you would almost always see there when it started.

She worked the Fourth of July booth at the park, in 2010 for B.A.S.E.   She did not need to do that.   She was not from Evansville.   She could have spent that time with her family.  But she gave her time to our town,  to the family’s and students.

She was not here long,  but she left an impression on those who met her.

She will be missed.

How many more good, quality educators will we lose?
