Sun Prairie police recommend homicide charges against man who beat young boy.  Wisconsin , dakota black, brayden turnbill

UN PRAIRIE (WKOW) — Sun Prairie police officials are recommending a homicide charge against a 24-year old man in the death of 5-year old Brayden Turnbill of Sun Prairie.

Sun Prairie Assistant Police Chief Scott Faust tells 27 News investigative reports have been sent to Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne for review, and a decision, on whether to charge Dakota Black of Oregon. Black is the boyfriend of the child’s mother.

Faust refuses to comment on whether the police homicide recommendation involves an intentional killing, or a less serious, reckless homicide.

Authorities say Black was taken into custody on a probation hold shortly after Turnbill’s fatal injuries were discovered Oct. 22.

Faust has referred to Black as the only suspect in the death.

The boy’s father, Anthony Turnbill, had previously told 27 News he was suspicious of Black’s possible involvement in the child’s death. Turnbill Tuesday said he believes more will be uncovered about the boy’s situation. “This is far from over,” Turnbill said.  Turnbill is facing an unrelated, child sex felony charge, and has maintained, he’s innocent.

Ozanne has yet to respond to a request from 27 News for comment on his view of the police recommendation.
