Evansville School District Board Meeting 12/10/2012– MORE student requests to leave the district through open enrollment.

Since the beginning of the school year there has been an open enrollment request every month.  They are losing thousands, and thousands of dollars every year due to open enrollment. Do to their inability to face the facts there are serious issues with this district.    Open enrollment is a great thing.  NO family or student should be stuck in a district where there kids are not getting what they need .

Administration is yet to take this seriously.

  1. This is put on the agenda each month in case there are requests since the state has basically increased the time period for parents to request open enrollment to “always.”

We had another reader suggest as well that they just put this on the agenda ” just in case.” Are you aware how many kids have left the school district already this school year? The district itself has predicted they will lose over 200 thousand this year because of the option of open enrollment. If they can predict this sort of loss why do they not do more about it? I just do not see any real concern about kids leaving the district. When I think about what they could do with that money they are losing , where that money is needed. I am sure you as well could think of a few things they could do with that money they are losing. Thanks you for the info.

  2. Hi Chasin’! I saw an article in the WSJ about Madison. It got me thinking about how their situation compares to ECSD and wrote an article for the Review this week. It summarizes the budget impact of the Open Enrollment situation in ECSD over the last 5 years.
